Accomplishments of Kaveri in 1981:

The motto was, every committee member should be involved and do their best. The members were from all walks of life. We celebrated Ugadi, Ganesha festival with the Ganapathi made by Smt. Leela Krishna, Vasanthothsava and Deepavali. During this year, New York Kannada Koota also had their Northeastern regional conference, where Girish Karnad was the chief guest. I represented our Kaveri in New York.

In 1981 the population of Kannadigas was less and also availability of Indian Restaurants was very slim, so the major issue was always "how and what do we feed all the attendees at these events." So, every event in 1981 had a different theme regarding dinner arrangements. It varied from cooking at home to cooking at the school. We had two major events with children. One was with Kannada maata in the middle and many children dressed in various historic figures and the other one was "Govina Kathe". These were both spearheaded by very talented Late Sri. Narashimha Swamy. We had a festival in October, called it Vasanthothsava and in November celebrated Deepavali with a sit down catered dinner with lamps on the table and by the one and only Vegetarian Restaurant Siddhartha. It was very important at that time for us to have only Vegetarian food from a Vegetarian Restaurant. We requested members to send us RSVP and also payment by check, which was done by our members very willingly and it was a very great achievement.
